Our review of the Dreo BaristaMaker Milk Frother

That said, we’re not being paid to write this review. We got the frother, but no payment. That leaves us free to be completely open and unbiased in our opinions.

So… first up… why do you need a milk frother when most espresso machines come with frothing wands? And yes, with some practice, you’ll almost always get the best result from a wand.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I can speak to my own experience. We have a couple of high-end espresso machines, complete with wands. And from time to time, I’ll use one of those machines and enjoy the full espresso-making experience.

But here’s the thing… it’s a lot of work! And if I’m a little lazy cleaning the frothing wand, it starts getting crusty with dried milk.

That’s why using a pod espresso machine like a Nespresso has its appeal. Same with a milk frother.

Is it the same experience? No. But it hits the spot for a milky espresso or two during my workday when I don’t have time for the full espresso-making and cleaning experience.

Introducing the Dreo BaristaMaker…

Even before plugging it in, there was a lot I liked about this appliance. The design is beautiful, and the build is solid.

Does that matter? It does to me. If an appliance is going to take up counter space in my kitchen, I want it to look good. And I want it to have a quality feel when using it. No cheap plastics, please!

The BaristaMaker looks good and has a solid build in brushed steel. Double thumbs up.

Next up, its functionality

This milk frother has a LOT of options!

There are four option buttons on the touch screen.

The top left is where you select the type of milk you’ll be frothing. I’ve tried other frothers where you’re pretty much confined to full milk. With the BaristaMaker, you can also use low-fat milks, almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, and coconut milk.

I’m good with regular milk, but my daughter was super excited to see the other options.

The bottom left button is where you select the type of foam you want. Choose between Hot Cappuccino, Hot Latte, Hot Flat White, Hot Thick Foam, and Cold Thick Foam.

On the top right, you select the speed. The different speeds are available for when you’re making non-foaming drinks and mixing in ingredients like cocoa powder, protein powder, chai tea, and more.

On the bottom right is the temperature setting, which, for my purposes, I usually set at 160°F.

You also have a choice for frothing tips. In our photo above, you can see we used the Disc Tip, which is great for making thick foam, hot or cold.

The Impeller Tip is for Latte Art coffees where you want to make consistent microfoam for your coffees.

Our first time…

First, I used the Disc Tip to make myself a thick foam. Nothing fancy… I just added it to a double espresso from my Nespresso machine.

Next, my daughter, who used to work at Starbucks, used the Impeller Tip to create the microfoam you need to make Latte Art.

Our conclusions? We like it. I’ve tried other milk frothers of similar design, but the BaristaMaker beats them in the quality of the foam. My daughter agrees.

While the experience isn’t the same as using an espresso machine with a frothing wand, this frother is getting very close in terms of quality.

Plus, there is so much flexibility here… so many foam settings, milk types, and drink options.
